DIY Dehumidifier Solutions: Introducing Aprilaire's Wi-Fi Controller

Michael Church, Founder of Crawl Space Ninja Season 2025 Episode 23

Tired of worrying about humidity levels in your crawl space while you're away from home? The technology landscape for home moisture control is evolving rapidly, and we're excited to share a game-changing solution with you.

Meet AJ, our DIY specialist who's been helping Crawl Space Ninja customers tackle their moisture control projects for three years. In this conversation, AJ breaks down everything you need to know about the new Aprilaire dehumidifier Wi-Fi controller – a retrofit device that brings smart technology to your existing Aprilaire dehumidifier. Unlike newer models that come with built-in connectivity, this controller lets you upgrade your current unit (compatible with models 1830, 1850, 1870, E080, E100, and E130) without replacing the entire system.

The controller pairs with Aprilaire's Healthy Air app, giving you the power to monitor humidity levels, adjust settings, and receive alerts directly on your smartphone. This feature proves invaluable for vacation homeowners, rental property investors, and even primary residents during travel. Imagine being able to check on your Smoky Mountain cabin's crawl space humidity while relaxing on a Florida beach, or monitoring multiple rental properties without physical visits.

Beyond the product spotlight, we also discuss how AJ helps DIYers through personalized consultations. Using specialized inspection sheets and proprietary calculations, he creates accurate materials lists tailored to your specific project needs. Whether you're a dedicated DIY enthusiast or a contractor looking for expert guidance, this service ensures you'll have exactly what you need for a successful crawl space project.

Speaker 1:

Hey, michael Church Crawl Space Ninja. Today I have a special guest with me. I have AJ, who is our DIY specialist at the supplycrawlspaceninjacom DIY store and he has been with us a while. I'm going to have him share a little bit about himself for you all, but today we're going to be talking about the new product that Aprilaire has out. It's the Aprilaire dehumidifier Wi-Fi controller. So he's going to share with us a little bit about that product and also, if you need a consultation with myself or AJ, there's a link in the description of this video. So, aj, I appreciate you joining me on this video to talk about this Aprilaire Wi-Fi controller. If you don't mind, share a little bit about yourself.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so, like you said, I'm the DIY specialist for the store. My name is AJ. I've been working with Crawl Space Ninja about three years now. I started off in the corporate location of Crawl Space Ninja of Knoxville, but I kind of moved over to this DIY supply store position. I build materials lists. I assist customers with product information, product questions. If you just have any general questions about where do I start, I want to do the whole project. I just want to do this. I'll collaborate with you and we'll you know I can help you with your projects.

Speaker 1:

That's great, aj, and what I like is that you've got this ability to get one-on-one with folks. On a call like this on the Buy Me A Coffee webpage that we have available, someone can purchase a little bit of your time to do a 30-minute collaboration with you on their DIY project and they also get a free inspection sheet to help them inspect the crawl space. And then you take that information on that inspection sheet and you plug it into some Excel spreadsheet that you got access to that we developed. That spits out a materials list, which is fantastic if you're looking to do your own project and you need help with that. Aj has that kind of ability and it's pretty accurate, isn't it, aj? As far as the materials list that it spits out, it's pretty spot on, based on the parameter of the crawl space.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, absolutely. You know if you are a true DIYer or a contractor doing this, you know you may run into where you use more materials than you needed or less materials, but usually it's right on it. It's always accurate to that specific job.

Speaker 1:

So let's talk about this Aprilaire D-Midifier Wi-Fi controller. This is obviously. We're getting more and more smart home products out there. We've dabbled a little bit in this space over the years. I had some very disappointing products, I might add. So hopefully this one is going to be fantastic for April air. But their dehumidifiers are starting to become out-the-box smart Wi-Fi ready now. But this one is a little different. Tell us what this one is designed for and what dehumidifiers this one works for AJ.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, these Wi-Fi dehumidifiers. They just came out this year, truly no-transcript and congrats, you have a Wi-Fi Aprilaire dehumidifier.

Speaker 1:

So if I'm a DIYer and let's say I bought an Aprilaire B100 from us or Amazon, or maybe I had a contractor install it, I could get this Wi-Fi unit and it's okay for me to go down there in my crawl space, my basement, up in my attic or whatever and connect that unit to my smartphone. Is that correct? Absolutely, and this has an app. You want to tell us a little bit about the app, and I think the instructions and everything are on the supply store for that. Give us a little bit of overview about that app too, if you don't mind. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

So that app I believe it's called the Healthy Air app. It's made and manufactured by Aprilaire. It is what you would download to connect your phone to the unit. So you know, if you and the family want to go down to Florida and take a nice little vacation, you can go on that app and check in on your dehumidifier and make sure that it's running properly.

Speaker 1:

That's a really good point too. Maybe you've got a vacation home like you're talking about. You know we're so blessed to be next to the Smokies. Obviously, most people that own a house in the Smokies don't live in the Smoky Mountains. They Airbnb them or rent them out, but we still do projects up there and this is a nice way for an Airbnb or real estate investor. Maybe you've got multiple rental units and you want to keep tabs on the humidity. This is a great way to do that, because this would even let you know if your tenant or maybe you sent your plumber out there to take a look at something. This would let you know even if the unit was turned off and all that. So it's a really cool product. I recommend you check it out, and it's on supplycrawlspaceninjacom and I'm here with AJ and I'm Michael Church with Crawl Space Ninja, and we hope you make it a happy and blessed day, aj. Tell everybody see you later.

Speaker 2:

See you later.
